Tonight we are organising the first VMware User Group meeting here in Singapore. (VMUG) I have asked Scott Drummonds from EMC (vpivot.com) and Iwan Rahabok from VMware to come share their thoughts on Disaster Recovery, Business Continuity and Disaster Avoidance. I believe this is going to be an interesting super session on DR, a topic that I have always been interested. I have done many DR projects over the year going from simple SAN replication, to server replication to complex site replication. I think we are at a turning point now with VXLAN and advanced storage replication technologies that will bring us to the active/active, “always up” datacenter. The one big adavantage from such a configurtion is the ability to constantly test your DR plans. This is in affect a rolling DR plan, weekly and monthly. Simply not feasible without technologies like VMware Site Recovery Manager, EMC RecoverPoint and VNX so I hope we can dig a bit deeper into these technologies tonight. I will post links to both decks on this website after the event.

As promised the slide decks, the event was great: an evening of sharing amongst virtualization geeks, already working on the next meeting which promises to be even bigger with a few great guest speakers confirmed!
